NT-MRSA in animals

NT-MRSA is found in several animal species ('animal acquired'). Research by the VWA and RIVM showed that in 2006, 40% of Dutch pigs were carriers of the ”non-typable” variant (NT-MRSA). Subsequently, in 2007, pig and veal farmers in the Netherlands proved to have a higher than average risk of carrying this non-typable livestock farming variant of MRSA. The non-typable variant of MRSA has also been found in pigs in Denmark.
