Information on pests
Thousands and thousands of species of insects, fungi, bacteria, nematodes, viruses, invasive plants and other pests can inflict damage to our crops, forests and natural flora. Modern methods of pest management require knowledge of the pest species and their ecosystems. The possible introduction of new pests (including unknown and regulated pests which are not present), are a constant threat. Correct and prompt identification of new pests and the pathways for their introduction, is crucial for allowing decision making on regulation of these pests and for ensuring effective phytosanitary measures.
This section of the website foremost concerns practical information on pests which may be of benefit to growers, managers of nature conservation areas and other national plant protection organisations. This includes inter alia diagnostic methods, host range, and pest management tools for the pest under consideration. It does not include information relevant for reporting changes in the occurrence, outbreak or spread of pests that may be of immediate or potential danger. The latter information is included under the section 'Pest reporting'.
