Good Laboratory Practice

Marketing chemical products, ranging from simple industrial chemicals to pharmaceuticals, in The Netherlands is strictly regulated, as elsewhere in the European Union. An important part of the data that have to be submitted relates to the safety for human beings, animals and the environment. Since these data are used in the process of assessment and authorisation of chemical products, the authorities therefore must be sure that the data are reliable. To ensure the quality and validity of the data, the application of the so-called Principles of Good Laboratory Practice to safety testing is mandatory. The Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (in Dutch: Voedsel en Waren Autoriteit) is responsible for the monitoring of GLP compliance of the relevant test facilities.
