General Inspection Service
Seeing what's good, enforcing what can be better
The General Inspection Service is an agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. Rules on food safety, animal welfare and the environment are there for a good reason, and we aim to ensure these rules are followed as closely as possible. We therefore contribute to animal welfare, the conservation of special plants and animals and food safety.
Inspection
The General Inspection Service (AID) strives to ensure that as many people and businesses as possible follow the rules on food safety, animal welfare and conservation. We do this by inspecting consignments of agricultural products both at home and abroad. The staff of the General Inspection Service are authorised to stop and inspect your vehicle. During inspection they will assess whether the consignments you carry such as livestock, fertiliser or meat, comply with the rules. Failure to comply with the rules may be reported, and the case referred to the Public Prosecution Service.
Cooperation
For inspection and tracing of goods, the General Inspection Service cooperates with other enforcement agencies such as the Coast Guard, Customs, the National Police Agency (KLPD), the Environmental Police, water authorities and municipal councils. We also cooperate closely with supervisory bodies in the primary sector such as the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA), the Labour Inspectorate, Government Service for Land and Water Management (DLG) and the Plant Protection Service (PD).
